A decades-old laundromat has a new name, owner and host of upgrades.

Lux Laundry, featuring 34 washers and dryers, opened April 6 at 411 Front St.

Owner Joseph DiGiovanna, of Slatington, purchased the former Sunnyside Coin Laundry facility in late 2021 and implemented renovations over the past several months, including redoing the floor, adding shiplap to the walls and installing eight new washers and dryers.

“We’re actually still waiting on machines, but because of the pandemic and logistics, there’s been some delays,” DiGiovanna said.

Lux Laundry, open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, features complimentary wi-fi, folding tables and a seating area for customers wishing to wait while their laundry’s being done.

Four 45-pound capacity commercial washers can accommodate bed comforters and other large loads, DiGiovanna said.

“We’ll also be adding wash-and-fold service,” DiGiovanna added. “So, you would drop off your laundry, and we’d wash and fold it for you.”

Lux Laundry’s machines accept quarters, and card readers — allowing for use of debit and credit cards — are coming soon.
